07.02 | Software Release

Our latest software release is focused on reliability, comfort, and safety in and around the AV.  See the updates in action and watch a Cruise exhibiting polite caution in a dense scene of pedestrians and cyclists.

polite caution around cyclists

The latest software release has rolled out to the driverless fleet, containing improvements in these areas:

  • Shipped VehicleMTLv3.1 which reduces false positive detections for active EMVs by an additional 91% (increasing miles/FP EMV RA call by 45%) and reduces false positive detections for School Buses by 14%, reducing unnecessary stops and slow downs.

  • Shipped KSE Vehicles v17 and KSE VRU v16 which improve speed estimations on high speed vehicles by 10% and on animals by 8.6%

  • Shipped STA-V v26 that further improves the AV's response to more challenging scenarios where other drivers blow through intersections illegally at high speeds.

  • Shipped TSEL v17 that improves politeness and increases cautiousness around pedestrians in crosswalks by up to 90% in certain situations. TSEL v17 also makes the AV more cautious around bikes by biasing away from them in a more naturalistic way.

  • Shipped improvements making the AV even more cautious around construction zones.

  • Reduced trip interruptions by further improving the fault tolerance when near steering limits.

  • Launched LPC v9, which improves the consistency of the AV's decision making between planning components, resulting in smoother driving.

  • As part of LPC v9, reduced jerky steering instances at low speeds by an additional 92%, resulting in smoother driving in stop-and-go traffic

  • Expanded the situations where the car can resume after an interruption.

  • Improved localization diagnostics to reduce unnecessary trip interruptions.

  • Improved our impending collision detector with expanded coverage for slow-moving objects while improving overall accuracy.

  • Improved the accuracy of our impending collision detector (reduced false positives due to low flying birds.)

  • Increased ability to drive in even denser fog, reducing fog-related trip interruptions by an additional 87%

Statistics measuring the percentage of improvement are based on internal benchmarks and metrics.
