Community-centered leadership: Rob Grant joins Cruise

Rob Grant leads government affairs, public affairs, and social impact.

Cruise is deeply committed to strengthening bonds with our communities. We know that our technology does not operate in a vacuum, and that operating safely and in line with community expectations is critical to public acceptance and adoption of our services. Above all, we know our license to operate must be earned and is ultimately granted by regulators and the communities we seek to serve.

Last month, we were thrilled to welcome back Rob Grant to lead a critical component of this work as Chief Government Affairs Officer. Rob is a seasoned and highly respected government affairs leader who will be instrumental in our work to re-establish trust.

“I fundamentally believe in Cruise’s autonomous vehicle technology,” said Rob Grant. “Cruise’s technology can change the landscape of road safety and save lives, expand access to electric vehicles, and enhance mobility for all people. These goals are not unique to Cruise, and are indeed shared by regulators and communities alike. However, to achieve these shared goals, it is Cruise’s responsibility, and my pledge to work with our neighbors and collaborate with our communities.”

Rob’s community-centered leadership was a hallmark of his four years at Cruise previously, connecting the capabilities of our fleet to meet critical community needs. He launched Cruise’s social impact function, Cruise for Good, which has delivered over 2.5 million meals to San Francisco families facing food insecurity and provided thousands of free rides to late-shift service workers.

"Cruise has been a strong, stalwart partner to us at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank,” said Tanis Crosby, Executive Director at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. “Since the beginning of our work together over four years ago, they asked how they could help us fight hunger in our community. Their partnership allowed us to leverage technology in innovative ways to serve some of the most vulnerable in our community. We are grateful for their continued support to this day."

Rob is a strong advocate for inclusive, accessible mobility, and was instrumental in championing the Cruise WAV, a wheelchair-accessible version of the Cruise Origin. And under his leadership, Cruise doubled down on expanding access to sustainable transportation, forging a unique partnership with family farms to power our San Francisco fleet with solar energy.

As Cruise navigates the road ahead, with safety as our guiding light, we will seek to share updates on our progress and commitments to the communities we serve.
