Candidate Privacy Statement

At Cruise LLC (“Cruise”) we’re building the world’s most advanced self-driving vehicles to safely connect people with the places, things, and experiences they care about. Hiring the right people, and then equipping them to do the best work of their lives, is crucial to our mission.

To do that, we need to collect personal information from and about you, our candidates. We also need to use, store, and disclose that personal information. We refer to these activities, collectively, as “processing” your personal information. 

This Candidate Privacy Statement (“Statement”) is meant to help you understand how and why we process your personal information in connection with our recruitment of candidates for positions at Cruise.

This Statement does not apply to our processing of your personal information in your role as a user of our products and services.  When you interact with us in that role, the Cruise Privacy Statement or the privacy statement associated with the relevant product or service applies.  

1. Categories of Personal Information We Collect

We collect personal information directly from you and (where applicable) from service providers and other entities, such as employment agencies or consultancies, and publicly-available sources, including online (e.g. your public LinkedIn profile), or other referral sources.  

The categories of personal information we collect include:

  • Identification and contact information such as your full name, permanent residence, home and business addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses; copies of identification documents, such as driver’s licenses, social security cards, passports, and visas (only where required).

  • Professional or employment-related information, including:

    • Recruiting information such as information included in application forms, resumes, cover letters, work samples (e.g. writing samples, portfolios, etc.), and testing materials; job preferences; references; and background screening results.

    • Career information such as job titles, employment work history, work dates and locations, information about skills, qualifications, experience, publications, speaking engagements, and preferences, and professional memberships.

  • Education information such as institutions attended, degrees, certifications, training courses, publications, and transcript information.

  • Sensitive and/or demographic information such as race and ethnicity, sex/gender, gender identity/expression, military service, nationality, citizenship, and health information (only if required by law).  

  • Other information such as any information you voluntarily choose to provide in connection with your job application.

2. How We Use Your Personal Information

We use your personal information to manage our recruitment and hiring processes. In some cases, we process your personal information to facilitate the recruitment and hiring processes of our service providers.

This processing includes: considering your application; communicating with you throughout the recruitment and hiring process; contacting references; scheduling and managing interviews; evaluating you for current and future job opportunities, including matching your skills and interests to applicable job requirements; making hiring decisions; and initiating onboarding if you receive and accept an offer.  

We will also use your personal information for internal analyses to improve our recruitment and hiring efforts, including around diversity and inclusion.

3. How and Why We Share Your Personal Information 

We will disclose candidate personal information to the following types of entities or in the following circumstances (where applicable):

  • Internally between and among Cruise’s corporate parents and affiliates such as  General Motors to carry out the purposes described in this Statement.

  • Service Providers in order to administer services during the Cruise recruiting and hiring process.  These service providers include technology service providers, travel management providers, human resources suppliers, and employment agencies or external recruiters. 

  • Legal Purposes when required to do so by law, regulation, or court order; in response to a valid request for assistance by a regulator, or law enforcement agency; to seek legal advice from our external lawyers or in connection with litigation; or to investigate or address claims or disputes relating to Cruise’s products or services.

  • Business Transaction Purposes in connection with any sale, assignment, or other transfer of Cruise assets, financing, consolidation or restructuring, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by or into another company.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Statement unless another retention period is required by law or for auditing purposes. 

5. Updates to this Statement

We may update this Statement from time to time. We will post any changes to this Statement to this page.

6. Privacy Inquiries and Correcting Your Personal Information

If you have concerns or questions about this Statement or about Cruise’s privacy practices, you may contact us at privacy@getcruise.com.

In some places you may have certain rights under data protection laws. These may include the right to have your personal information updated or deleted, to access your information, or to object to Cruise using it for certain purposes.

If you wish to access, correct, or delete your information, please contact privacy@getcruise.com.  We will process requests in accordance with applicable law, and there may be circumstances where we are not able to comply with your request.
